Howls Of Some Dark Beast

My pain soaks the sheets,
the sweat stains my abode
and the howls of some dark
beast within writhe torment.
I pray to the wind that carries
my undulating hope that it
finds a god or some respite
from the deepening void.
I carry with me memory,
I carry with me regret.
I open my spirit to the pain
and accept the flaws I bear.
I can dream a dream before
my body finds its slumber.
Yet the devices that dictate
my ever beating heart weep.
I shall find the dust fate says.
So my tears of sorrow fall
and I sleep now to wake so
that I wash off tears and say
be brave you wretched man.
For tomorrow knows not
of any tears spilled for today.
